Bush Fire

Description

Painted in 1979, this painting is a fine example of Coburn’s mature style. The firey red and scorched earth with a red night sky provokes a sense of crisis and hot devastation but there is also redemption and salvation. The painting’s formal composition brings order to the burnt out landscape and the bird flies high, giving us hope, reminding us that this is the natural order of things in harsh outback Australia.
