Description

Coburn developed his own language that paid homage to Aboriginal Art and the Australian outback. Neither borrowing or imitating, he stayed within his Western art tradition, at the same time, the influence of Aboriginal art is clearly seen. The painting sings with red dirt colour, full with umber and oxides and the basalt grey rock ever present. You can almost feel the oppressive and claustrophobic heat closing in.
